Concerning New York Building Manager’s Association

During the bright spring days of 1917, George Bode, William Chapman, Martin Edwards, John McDonald, Smith Wells, and John Whitehead, all of whom were building superintendents, had been meeting in each other’s buildings in order to discuss the issues that they were experiencing with their operations and upkeep. They were obviously above-average men, and they had the hope that by working together and exchanging ideas, they could ultimately become the most successful building superintendents in the state of New York. In June of 1917, they had established and begun the process of establishing the New York Building Superintendents’ Association. Their meetings began to draw additional attendees, and they were successful in doing so.

Within a span of five years, the proportion of members had significantly increased, and the Association had unquestionably established itself as a significant power in the real estate market. Incorporating was the decision made by the membership. In the early part of 1923, once the Association had satisfied all of the legal criteria, the State of New York issued the Association the documents necessary to incorporate. During the process of registering and copyrighting the charter title, the Association’s seal was also registered.
