Investigators have reported that a person of interest is in custody, and a woman has passed away. This occurred subsequent to a gunshot that occurred on Saturday afternoon at Shelby Farms Park.
A renowned breast cancer walk was taking place in the vicinity of the park’s visitor centre when the shooting occurred. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has reported that the gunshot occurred in the parking lot at approximately 12:15 p.m., which subsequently resulted in a high-speed pursuit through multiple counties.
Ellie Claire Young, 22, of Henning, TN, was identified as the victim by the SCSO. Young was declared deceased at the site. According to investigators, the suspect fled the scene by vehicle. The individual was subsequently apprehended by Dyer County police officers following a pursuit. The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office has reported that the suspect attempted to run over one of its sergeants and even drove the wrong way into oncoming traffic.
According to investigators, the pursuit extended through Lauderdale County, Tipton County, and Dyer County. The event concluded following a PIT manoeuvre on Highway 51 in Dyer County. Medical personnel evaluated the suspect at the emergency room after he was apprehended. A primed handgun was discovered in the suspect’s vehicle by the deputies.
